How much Caffine is safe for pregnant women?

The FSA currently advises pregnant women to consume no more than 200mg of caffeine a day, based on an assumption that an espresso contains about 50mg of caffeine. The guideline for an average healthy person is 300mg a day. The reason for the restriction is you metabolise caffeine much more slowly when you're pregnant.

People with liver disease do not have the enzymes to metabolise caffeine so they should avoid it.

As reported in BBC, analysts found that caffine in coffee ranges from 50mg per cup from Starbucks to 300mg per cup from another coffee house

On the other hand, it's found in another study of nearly 50,000 US men that coffee has been linked to a reduced risk of dying from prostate cancer. But the important points is no difference was seen between caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee, suggesting caffeine itself was not the cause.

Lead researcher Dr Kathryn Wilson, from the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston, said ""Heavy caffeine intake is associated with other health problems and men with benign prostate problems might well make urinary symptoms worse."
